A.K.A. "Reverse donuts". WTFack, car? At least it went out when I left for work this morning.
After stopping to adjust my headlights (after dropping Free Birds off at Family Video) in a mortuary parking lot, I decided to leave in an, uh, unorthodox fashion. Only because I haven't done donuts in this car yet, and I have in every other car I've owned.
Hell, even did a few lazy ones in the !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! in this same parking lot. When the wife was at home.... hehehe. Don't tattle.

So, the ABS light went on and stayed on? That's new.
My Astra used to blink the ABS light during hard braking, handbrake turns or reverse donuts. But it wasn't equipped with ABS. I asked some of the Chevy mechanics, they said he never heard about anything similar. Although usual Astra owners probably don't care.

Yeah. It was even on when I started the car this morning until I started moving. Car's a 1998, as well, so there's no fancy schmancy ABS/TCS/ESP wizardry at work.

Huh.
The computer must've gone insane somehow. Nothing some rest and then waking it up again can't solve, eh? Just like the good old check engine light. If it doesn't go away the next day, just tape it over.

if the ABS turns on and stays on, it means that something in the ABS system went HO SHIT NI****. usually when there is a HUGE discrepancy in wheels speeds (cough)
you will have brakes. just not ABS.
turn the car off and back on again. ABS will reset

Was it staying on, or did it only activate when turning in a certain direction? In some cars the ABS or parking brake light functions as a brake fluid level warning light. Under hard cornering the fluid in the reservoir "tilts" and will drop below the sensor when turning in that direction.

This is a stupid quiestion... but do you have ABS? Many cars still have the light even when it's not optioned.

Oh yeah. It's sensitive as hell too. Worst ABS in a car I've ever had.

This makes a lot of sense.
Thanks!

I do, it's fine, light's off and brakes are acting as intended. They're just... touchy to slippery conditions.
